October

Dear members,

As many of you have noticed the course staff have been busy preparing temporary greens over the past few weeks. These greens will be used through the period of November – February when traditionally the soil greens hold water and puddle. Once the turf is so saturated that puddles or standing water begins to form, these greens must be closed. Allowing traffic on saturated turf would be detrimental to the playing surfaces as the turf is at its greatest risk of serious compaction in this condition. The decision to switch over and back from temporary greens will be made by the golf course maintenance team, the pro shop staff and members of the course committee.

  • For the period from November – December the intention is to try and keep as many of the regular greens open for as long as possible. However when we do experience puddling on the soil greens, the temporary green will be brought into play until such time that the soil green is fit for regular golf again.

  • For the period January – February the intention is to rest 3 – 4 regular soil greens a week in rotation regardless of moisture content. These greens will be closed for the week to allow recovery and also an opportunity for any essential maintenance around these green complexes. The sequence of closures will be as follows:

  • January 4th– 10th greens 1, 11 and 15 will be rested.

January 11th – 17th greens 2, 10, 13 and 17 will be rested.

January 18th – 24th greens 12, 14 and 18 will be rested.

January 25th– 31st greens 1, 11 and 15 will be rested.

February 1st– 7th greens 2, 10, 13 and 17 will be rested.

February 8th– 14th greens 12, 14 and 18 will be rested.

February 15th– 21st greens 1, 11 and 15 will be rested.

February 22nd– 28th greens 2, 10, 13 and 17 will be rested.

Please understand that this Temporary Greens Policy must be adhered to or we will have to revert back to closing the golf course under extremely wet conditions to ensure the integrity of our regular greens is not compromised.

Thank you for your understanding as we continue to do our best to protect YOUR investment!
