Mixed Foursomes 2016

Charleville Golf Club had the honour of hosting the GUI Mixed Foursomes Championship 2016. We welcomed teams from Nenagh, Adare Resort, Adare Manor, Castletroy, Ballyneety, Limerick, Rathbane and Roscrea. Thanks to Eoin Buckley and his Ground Staff, the Course was presented in magnificent order. The visiting teams and GUI Officials were wholesome in their praise of the condition of the course and facilities of our Clubhouse and Bar / Restaurant.

Following several practice sessions, Managers John Walsh and Siovain Bowles assembled a strong panel of players to represent Charleville. Our first match against Ballyneety on Saturday morning ended in victory for us with 3 games won and 2 called in.
On Sunday morning in rain and windy conditions, we played Rathbane and again our team played superbly. With the score lying 2 – 1 in our favour, 2 games went up the the 19th and we were victorious on the 20th.
The weather improved for the afternoon and we played Limerick in the Section Final and even though Limerick fielded a very strong and fancied team, we pulled out all the stops and again victory was ours with 2 matches winning on the 14th and 1 on the 15th.
Overall a great weekend for the Club and we now look forward to playing the Winners of the Clare Section in the North Munster Final on June 29th or 30th at a venue to be confirmed.
