After 2 events only 9 points are separating the top 5 in the golfer of the year leaderboard. With 20 points up for grabs this weekend we are sure to see many changes to the rankings.
Round 3 of the Golfer of the year is the Delaney Cup which is being held this weekend Fri 13th to Sun 15th May.
Paddy Delaney was elected as the first Hon Secretary of Charleville Golf Club. He was the main driving force in the very early days and was behind every financial move that was planned and implemented, with a view to securing land and getting the Golf Club up and running. There were monster draws for 2,500 cigarettes, which were a rationed commodity back then, and probably the largest draw, was for a Model T ford, This car was never manufactured and the winner was delighted to receive the princely sum of £400.
The Delaney Cup was presented in recognition of the trojan work done under his stewardship.
The defending champion from last year is Daniel O’Callaghan, and with the weather forecast perfect for good scoring this prestigious cup is going to be keenly contested.
We would also like to show our appreciation to Jim Harman for his kind sponsorship of this weekends Cup competition.
