We are at the final event of the golfer of the year event. The O’Connor Cup which will be played for this weekend.
This cup was presented to the club by Mr Pat O’Connor / Fr Joe O’Connor and was first competed for in the late 1940’s.
P.J. (Pat) was elected Captain in 1949 and also served as Hon Treasurer for a number of years. His sister Mol was elected Lady Captain in 1948 and served in other positions on the Ladies committee.
The O’Connor Family were natives of Doneraile, The late P.J. O’Connor was the local bank manager of the now defunct National Bank.
The O’Connor Cup is played as a medal (stroke) competition and it would be great to see a large member turnout to compete for this Cup.
It has been interesting to see the movers and shakers on the GOY leader board throughout the year, and the points will be finalised and winner announced after the cards returned and scores totted !
We are grateful to Claude Gough of Goughs Bar who is kindly sponsoring the O’Connor Cup this year.
