MENS CLUB UPDATE  19th June 2020

Following on from our Club June newsletter and the subsequent disappointing last minute GUI announcement that competition golf was not allowed to commence on the 8th June as had been indicated originally, we now anticipate it will be approved in Phase 3 which starts on the 29th June. We have again rescheduled our calendar for competitions and events as and from this date. A very busy July,August and September is in the offing.

Many of our new members have now received official handicaps & others are in the process of doing so. We wish to remind all members that they must have 3 competitions played for the year to be eligible to win any prize in the Captain & President prize competitions. We would urge all members to enter upcoming competitions to achieve eligibility. The “golfer of the year” qualifying competitions start early July, the O’Connor Cupon 4/5th July followed by the March Cup 11/12th & the Ardmore Cup 18/19th July. Tuesday singles competition starts 30th June and we intend to have a seniors specific competition on Tuesdays pending the resumption of the senior Wednesday scramble – more info will follow on this soon. The Winter League Finals play offs are reaching their conclusion, results will be announced on full completion.

GUI have now indicated the Bruen & Purcell competitions will take place and Charleville Golf Club will be competing in both. The team managers wish to have as many golfers as possible competing for places on these teams so if you are interested in being on the panel put your name and mobile number on the sheets in the men’s locker room – practice will commence in early July.

It is intended to reopen the practice facilities but they will be restricted to a maximum of 3 people on any facility (driving range, chipping & putting areas) at any one time to allow social distancing and to comply with covid rules, an opportunity to practice and improve your golf technique.

There will be strict rules with regard to competition scorecards and this was highlighted in our earlier June club newsletter, specific detail will be posted around the club over the coming week. We would ask everyone to observe this rule for the health & safety of all members.

The Junior Club committee are busy looking at ways to recommence junior golf in keeping within the covid guidelines – details will be communicated soon.

Remember if you are playing golf you must be on the timesheet – it applies to all golf i.e. casual , competition, few holes etc.. This requirement will remain for the foreseeable future..

Enjoy your golf and keep safe.
