Teams

It has been an extremely busy 2 weeks regarding Teams representing Charleville Golf Club with the following in action.

Irish Senior Cup.

Managed by Jerry Murray our Senior Cup Team had an early start on Saturday June 25th playing East Clare in Round 1 of the Irish Senior Cup. With a nice blend of youth and experience our lads performed well and won on a score of 3 / 2.
In the afternoon (after a long wait) we came out second best to a strong Shannon side. Charleville were represented on the day by Carl McCarthy, Denis O’Donovan, Conor Slevin, Barry Ryan and Cian O’Connell. Special mention to the newly married Carl McCarthy who played 2 Senior Cup games in Woodstock and returned to Charleville later that evening to play in John Chawke’s Captains Prize play off and went on to win the overall gross prize.

Irish Mixed Foursomes

Under the Management of Siovain Bowles and John Walsh, our Mixed Fousomes Team made the long journey to East Clare Golf Club on Wednesday June 29th to play Dromoland in the North Munster Final. We started well winning the first game but Dromoland came back strongly to win 3 1/2 – 1 ½. Our Team on the day was Matthew Farrissey / Margaret Laffan, Damien Lyons / Cathriona White, David O’Sullivan / Imelda O’Hanlon, Anthony Fitzgerald / Maisie Clifford and Mark Cagney / Margaret Cashman.

Irish Junior Cup

A youthful team managed by Jerry Murray defeated Adare Manor on their home course on Saturday morning July 2nd on a scoreline of 3 / 2. We were 2 – 1 down after 3 matches but we finished strongly with Match No 5 winning on 18th and Match No 4 winning on the 20th. Our Team was Barry Ryan, Jonathan O’Brien, David Byrnes, Cian O’Connell and Cathal O’Carroll.
We returned to Adare on Sunday morning and played a very strong Nenagh side in the second round and we were unlucky not to win this game. With the scores standing at 2 – 2, our final match was beaten on Hole No 20 by a chip in birdie.

Well done to all Teams, Caddies and Loyal Supporters.

Our Barton Shield Team play Roscrea in Limerick on Saturday morning next and we wish them the best of luck and any support would be appreciated.
