June Newsletter To Members

June newsletter to members.

We hope you are enjoying your golf and the nice weather we have had lately. With Phase 2 of

the roadmap for reopening society due to begin on 8th June we would like to update you on the

changes that will be allowed in golf from then.

Please note that all the rules & protocols previously communicated continue to apply with the

following amendments:

-Group sizes increased to 4 balls at 14 minute intervals.

-Booking your tee time must be made in advance, on line or by telephone.

-Casual golf and closed club competitions will be allowed.

-Only members & members guests (casual golf only) may play, juniors must play with an adult.

The full report “ Phase 2, protocol for the re-introduction of golf in the Republic of Ireland “ will

be available to view at the starters hut at the 1st tee and other locations at the club. You can

also view it on www.golfnet.ie . Full adherence to this protocol and the underlying public health

guidance is essential.

As you can understand our original calendar for competitions and other events was decimated

when the lock down occurred & on resumption no competitions were allowed. We are pleased

to advise the committee’s have agreed to reschedule the calendar and this is now complete. We

will be updating our website with the new version over the course of this week, suffice to say the

men’s Tuesday singles (members only) will commence on the 9th June and the ladies

(members only) on Thursday 11th June. As you can imagine this will mean a very condensed

competition calendar for instance, 3 GOY cup competitions for men run 3 weekends in a row

from the 13th June, the Presidents, ladies and mens Captains prizes are all being played in

August.

As communal computer terminals used for sign in and score entry will be disabled please book

your competition tee time in advance, entry fees will be taken in the Pro-shop. There will be no

exchanging of scorecards. Players will be allowed to mark their own card by verbally certifying

the score after each hole (we recommend you keep your partner marker score on your card

also) and agree the result at the end of play. You must ensure the following is on your card –

competition name & date, your name, handicap, GUI number and the name of your marker –

before returning it to the competition box. Due to the extra workload involved for competition

secretaries and their teams there will be delays in reporting results.

The mens club committee have indicated to the GUI that our club will compete in the Pierce

Purcell & Jimmy Bruen competitions if and when they are held. As all Ireland Pierce Purcell

Shield Champions we will expect a strong number of players for both panels, further information

about practice will be provided by the team managers in due course.

We would like to welcome the new members who have joined our club this year & we hope you

are enjoying our course, improving your golf & getting to know new friends. Just a reminder to

all members please replace divots, repair pitch marks on greens to assist our greens staff in

keeping the course in the magnificent condition it is in. Also a new updated dress code will be

out shortly and we would request all members to abide by it.

We will be publishing the result of the qualifiers for the mens winter league cup & shield shortly

and the play off will consist of singles matchplay between the teams. The mens committee had

to alter the play off format to comply with covid 19 rules.

So far this year the club has had it tough financially and we are requesting members who pay by

cash instalments to ensure at least Euro400 is now paid towards their 2020 subscription before

commencement of competitions. Thank you to all who have their full subscription paid and those

on direct debit.

Finally, enjoy your golf & please adhere to the rules and protocols in place to keep you and your

fellow members safe.
